Table Tennis Equipment
The International Table Tennis Federation is a worldwide organization that governs everything related to the game, including the equipment specifications.
There are four essential elements needed to play the game.
They are a table, a net, a little racket and a small ball.
The ITTF rules specify that the table must be made of wooden materials.
It must be dark and matte colored and divided into two halves by a net.
Its dimensions have to be exactly 2.74 m long, 1.525 m wide, and 76 cm height.
More than that, the table must allow a uniform bounce of about 23 cm when a standard ball is dropped onto it from a height of 30 cm.
The net must divide the table exactly into two halves being 15.25 in height.
The ball must be a sphere with a diameter of 40 millimeters and have a mass of 2.7 grams.
It has to bounce up 24–26 cm when dropped from a height of 30.5 cm onto a standard steel block.
The last rule states that the ball must be colored white or orange, with a matte finish and made of celluloid plastic.
The racket, also know as a bat or paddle, is the most important equipment for a ping pong player.
A quality paddle will for sure improve the performance of the player.
The racket is made of at least 85% laminated wooden covered with different rubber types on one or two sides.
ITTF regulations do not specify the allowed length and width of the racket.
Blades are customizable, according to the preference of the player.
Some of the standard options are Shakehand and Penhold, having each one of them their variations.
There are several rubber types, and in combination with the sponge thickness, it is possible to choose how to play the match, either in an offensive or defensive way.
Choosing between rubber options, like, Smooth, Short Pips, Long pips or Anti-Topspin, together with the rubber allows players to dominate the Speed and the Spin of the ball.
